The 105th annual Tennessee State Fair is just around the corner, so everybody is busy gearing up for it. The fair begins September 9th and end on the 18th. All Tennesseans avidly wait for this each year, as it promises to have something fun and interesting for everyone.

History

The first Tennessee State Fair was held in 1906 and the tradition has continued since then. It hasn’t always been an easy road for the fair, as it had to survive the Great Depressions, unexpected fires and other minor storms. However, every year the fair survived! So it makes sense that the theme of this year’s fair is “tradition lives on”. This year the fair will place special importance on the culture and heritage that Tennesseans cherish and highlight future growth. Also, like every year the fairgrounds will be filled with exciting rides, competitions and events you can’t afford to miss out on!

What to expect in Tennessee State Fair?

The Tennessee State Fair is not just for the purpose of entertainment only. It also promotes businesses and agriculture so that every entity benefits from the fair in a different manner. The Motor Sports Weekend-Demolition Derby will be the first event to take place on the 9th followed by “celebrity cow milking” on the same day. With such events you know that opening night will be a bang! The Motors Sports Weekend will end with the State Fair Spectacular Auto race and the Tennessee Valley Quarter Midget Association Races.

You can also dance to the free music concert series presented by the Farm Bureau Insurance. This year some of the performers include:

The Bekah Hailey Band

Delicious Blues Stew

Brandi Thornton

Brandon Maddox

J.D Shelburne

Rachel Mann

String Band

There are also interesting contests lined up for Tennesseans. Some of the fun contests are the ice cream eating contest, hula hoop contest, the fairest of the fair and talent competition and many more. However, the biggest competitions of the fair are Creative Arts, FFA, FCCLA, HOSA and Clover Bowl. These competitions exist to showcase the talent and agriculture skills from the state. Remember that all competitions and contests require registration.

For additional details about the event or to download the registration forms for the contest, you can visit www.tnstatefair.org. Also remember, the fair can never have enough volunteers, so if you are up to it then read the details on the website mentioned above. you should drop by whenever you can so that you experience the fun and community spirit at least once!

It’s time for the weekly event that draws the community together. Franklin TN Farmers Market is this Saturday. If you have never come out for the marketplace of fresh fruit and vegetables, you are missing a terrific time meeting some great people, and finding some fabulous finds at the market. Not too many Farmers markets are available these days, but Franklin Tennessee has a market every weekend, and it is year round. Not only will you find fresh fruit and vegetables, but there is fresh bread and dairy goods too! Want a good steak? Well this farmers market offers fresh chicken, beef and pork to the community, as well.

If you have never done your Saturday grocery shopping at the Franklin, TN Farmers Market, you are missing out on the great atmosphere, the great values, and an opportunity to support our local farmers and ranchers.

The Market is open every Saturday right behind The Factory. Here is some more good news. The market is now reopening their Tuesday Farmers Market. This is the same market readily available on Saturdays, is now available to the community on Tuesdays too! The Farmers Market three main goals are:

• #1 Goal is to support local family farms a profitable and reliable venue for farmers to sell what they produce.

• #2 Goal is to provide the public, easy access to healthy, locally grown fresh food. All vegetables and fruits; meats, dairy and herbs come from Middle Tennessee farms to the market.

• #3 Goal is to educate about the positive impact that agriculture has on the local economy, the aesthetic values of communities and the environment.

The next time you make up your grocery list, remember that Franklin, TN Farmers Market is open Saturday 8:00 am-1:00 pm and Tuesday’s 3:00-6:00pm. Diamond Rio is coming to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. In case you do not know, there have not been very many groups inducted into the Opry cast in the last decade or so. Diamond Rio first came to the Opry in October of 1991 and in 1998 were awarded induction into the honorable Opry house. Their group was the first in fourteen years to receive such a place of celebrity and fame at the Opry. Nothing but the best is allowed in this famous city hall, so when you come for an Opry show, you will experience the spirit of Nashville, TN and some of the best talent on the globe!

Diamond Rio’s six man band has air light vocal harmonies and intricate instrumentation that has helped define the standards of ‘young country music’ in their debut album in 1991. Once called the Tennessee River Boys, Diamond Rio performed at the former Opryland theme park.

In 2004, Diamond Rio received the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award for its work on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, for which the band members serve as National Ambassadors, as well as the American Lung Association, and others.

Nothing says summer like going to the water slides and wave pools. There are two more weeks of Wave Country in Nashville, TN. The summer will soon come to an end, and with it, the beloved Wave Country Waterpark will close its weekly schedule. Starting August 15, the water park will only be open on weekends and only through the Labor Day weekend, when it closes for the entire year.

Wave Country has new speed slides and water flumes for everyone to enjoy. Do you like catching the big wave? Well, now you can do that at the Wave Country Waterpark. Come put your feet in the wave pool, or take a plunge out to sea when the wave tide rolls in to greet you. For those who are less daring, there are calm moments too when the waves are not rolling in at high speeds.

Floats are included in your admission, but they are limited, so I recommend that you get there early. There are kiddie parks and a playground for the little tots. No one is left out or left behind. Make a day of it and bring your picnic lunch, or buy food from the large selection of food vendors available. If you would like to reserve one of the two picnic shelters for your family or large group, call (615) 862-8408.

In every group is a daring individual, and the water park has kept them in mind too! Come drop from a forty-foot tower and travel eighty feet! Talk about absolute excitement, Wave Country has it all. Park entrance fees are $12.00 per adult, $10.00 for kids, and children under two get in free! If you would like $2.00 off the admission price go to: http://www.nashville.gov/parks/water/wave_country.asp and click on the coupon advertisement. There are only two more weeks of Wave Country in Nashville, TN, so make plans now to visit!

Diasastrous weather has unfortunately been a commonality for our communities so I wanted to share an article with you that will give you some insight on how people are coping with the situation.
How Are You Coping with the Recent Flooding? is a post from: Nashville, Brentwood and Franklin, Tennessee Real Estate

All of the disastrous weather that has hit our area has been really devastating for many communities. Not only are people going through personal turmoil but homes and properties are destroyed leaving people wondering what to do.

Homeowners have tons of questions about what happens to their home value when it has been directly affected by a natural disaster, such as the flooding we have seen.

I read a great article in The Tennessean that pointed out some key indicators that have helped us understand what will come of this situation.

Most residents have now moved back into their homes and some of the homes have seen major renovations and improvements. As tragic as the situation was, it gave homeowners a key time to upgrade the interiors and exteriors of their home. If repairs needed to be made, might as well go all out, right? All in all, it is a great sign that so many people have chosen to invest in their homes.

On the contrary, some families have simply left their homes. This could be because they were overwhelmed by their loss, they couldn’t afford to make the repairs or because of a slew of other possible reasons. Even in these cases, the sales of those properties are now being made to investors who will renovate the home and put it back on the market either to sell or to rent. This again is a sign of hope.

Lets all stick together through these tough times whether you are renovating or relocating. It has been very devastating for many communities in Tennessee and we just want the best for everyone.
