Meetings Explore Options For Historic Franklin Cinema

Meetings exploring options for the historic Main Street Franklin Cinema center around thinking beyond movies

A Main Street treasure, Franklin Cinema was a charming place with cushy chairs offering plenty of legroom and tables to enjoy pizza, a burger or even a pitcher of beer while watching the movie!  After 70 years in operation, the unique theatre closed in January, 2007 apparently due to a dramatic rent increase.  Lovers of this "Main street USA" icon and local residents are getting together to come up with new ideas in hopes of restoring the theatre.

The Williamson Herald reports: "A meeting with possible investors and stakeholders provided a group consensus to maintain the cinema as a theater, at least in part, but to expand its use, and possibly its size as well, to convert the property into a cultural center for Franklin."

Some of the ideas for the theatre site are adding a restaurant and extending the stage to accommodate bands, local plays, and comedy tours.
